Clinician. Educator. Scholar. Coach.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Branzetti is a semi-avid bicyclist, wistful former hockey player, late-to-the-party tennis player, burgeoning world traveler, aspiring guitarist, not-so-novice homebrewer, amateur kitchen scientist, and sidekick to the best dog in the world.
Jeremy Branzetti is a medical educator, education researcher, and scholarly collaborator
Dr. Branzetti earned dual bachelor’s degrees at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook and received his MD from the same institution. Adaptive Expertise & The Master Adaptive Learner
Contrasted with a more traditional or routine, form of expertise, Adaptive expertise is the effective application of existing knowledge and skills to create innovative solutions for tasks or problems that are novel to the expert.
The Master Adaptive Learner model describes the metacognitive skills and processes needed to develop Adaptive Expertise.
Practical Experience: I have accumulated extensive knowledge of AE literature within and outside of medicine while leading or co-leading multiple investigations in this domain. My MHPE thesis specifically addressed how typical learners struggle achieve adaptive expertise (see below)
Speaking Experience: Numerous national and local engagements, including CORD, SAEM, and ICRE

Physician Wellness & Burnout
The science is clear: the high stakes of patient care, increasing productivity expectations, shrinking academic autonomy, and the COVID-19 pandemic have all combined to threaten the ability of physicians to thrive. My work has focused on developing understanding, assessments, and interventions in physician wellness and burnout.

Branding & Program Identity
Ask anyone in the business world, and they’ll implicitly understand the importance of branding to their organization. I believe that these concepts can translate into medical education to help program leaders with curriculum design, recruitment, and more.
Speaking Experience: Along with my speaking partner Dr. Michael Gisondi, I have spoken at several national conferences, grand rounds, and institutional seminars about the topic of education program branding as a means to develop program identity, clarify educational goals, and provide a compelling vision to potential recruits

Learning Science
In the last decade or so, evidence has accrued in support of specific techniques that lead to optimal learning. By translating, measuring, and implementing, and innovating learning techniques, I aim to improve the learning and teaching skills of medical practitioners.
Practical Experience: I accrued extensive experience with learning science over my years of educational program leadership, as well as 3 years managing the flagship education track a national medical education organization. Finally, I obtained a Masters in Health Professions Education with a focus on education scholarship.
Speaking Experience: I have been invited to deliver multiple national, regional, and local presentations about how best to teach and learn within medicine.

GME Program Administration
The cornerstone of physician education is the residency training experience. Through leadership roles, research, and collaboration, I’ve accrued an extensive knowledge base in education program administration and leadership.
Practical Experience: I have 11 combined years as a residency program leader, including 4 as residency director of a 70-resident program.
Speaking Experience: I’ve provided countless talks regarding GME program administration, covering a wide array of topics including accreditation, curriculum design, assessment and evaluation, niche development, feedback, and more.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Allyship in Medicine
As a white heterosexual cis-gendered male, I am just about the least credible avatar of DEI efforts. But I do strive to use my privilege be a meaningful ally within academic medicine – be it as a leader, colleague, or coach.
Practical Experience:
- Founded the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine Diversity Consult Service to collectively help programs to improve DEI efforts.
- Created a comprehensive DEI residency recruitment plan that resulted in more URM and female residents than the national average.

Coaching & Mentoring
After more than a dozen years in medical education leadership, I’ve accrued vast experience with both coaching and mentoring of students, residents, and faculty.
Practical Experience:
- Coached hundreds of residents and junior faculty in topics such as niche development, conflict resolution, learning skills, and more
- Mentor to over a dozen mentees, including medical students, residents, and junior faculty
